Animated Gif
In this assignment, you are to create an animated gif which will serve as a “banner ad” to bring attention to a product or idea that you feel passionately about. The ad can be either serious or humorous – just use your imagination.
Somewhere in the ad there should be a photo or drawing of you and somewhere your name should appear. The ad is to be an animated gif that is in standard banner format, i.e., 468 x 60 pixels. For example, here is a political banner ad using some fictional TV and movie Presidents:

You can choose to build your banner ad in either Photoshop or Flash or Fireworks. Here are the requirements (note that you only have to choose ONE package – you are only creating one banner ad!)
Photoshop
Flash
What to hand in
Photoshop
- Use at least two of the three tweens built into Photoshop (Position, Opacity and Layer Effects), and also rotate (or transform) part of your image by using multiple layers.
- Build an animation of least 20 frames in length. You are certainly not limited to 20 though – feel free to add more if you’d like! Note: If an object moves from one side of the screen to the other as the result of a tween by position using two key-frames … that “counts” as two frames, not the full number in the tween!
Flash
- Build an animation of at least 150 frames in length
- Your animation should contain at least 5 layers.
- Include at least three tweens in your project. You’ll want to add at least one Shape tween and one Motion tween in your animation (i.e. at least three of your 5 layers will be animated, though you are encouraged to animated more than just two layers!)
- Use opacity tweening (i.e. fading in and out) on one of your motion tweens
- Use at least one external picture in your animation
What to hand in
- When you are finished, save your file in its native format (PSD for Photoshop, FLA for Flash)
- Export your image as an animated GIF (Be sure to provide a link on your assignments page)
- Photoshop: File -> Save for Web and Devices
- Flash: File -> Export -> Movie -> Animated GIF
- Place a copy of your Animated GIF on your website (Better yet, include it in one of your projects)
